Lighting Artist

CMD:Studio is looking to add another exceptional person to our team. If you want to be part of a creative team that values your opinion, insight and expertise, then this is the perfect role for you. We are looking for a Lighting Artist with an eye for atmospheric light composition and the skills for high-quality implementation and performance.


This role is freelance, full-time, and 100% remote, but you need to be in or near the UK (GMT) time zone. We are looking for minimum mid-level (3+ years) experience and the initial contract is for 1 month. The base rate for this position is ~£700 weekly, but this can be further negotiated based on your experience.



Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with our Art and Creative Leads on developing the lighting for the game’s environment and objects

  • Keep the artistic style consistent with the defined visual style for the game by following creative and technical briefs

  • Maintain a balance between visual quality and performance requirements for a smooth playing experience

  • Troubleshoot technical issues associated with lighting, performance, tools, and pipelines

Essential

  • Must have shipped a title, whether it's indie or AAA

  • Understanding of storytelling and how light affects the game flow and level design

  • Good knowledge of colour theory, composition, lighting, shading, and physically based rendering

  • Working knowledge of optimisation processes for great performance and quality

  • Experience with lighting setup in Unreal 4

  • Great self-organisation and communication skills

Desirable

  • Self-drive to complete assignments in a timely manner while maintaining a high level of quality

  • Familiarity with Agile development processes

  • Interest in horror games

  • An understanding of the game development process within the scope of an indie studio
